William Forster II 1739 – 1808
A superbly fine instrument by William Forster II, known as Old Forster. William II’s father gave him his first steps in to instrument making, establishing a successful Forster linage through to Simon Andrew Forster. William II received patronage from the Royal family of the time which elevated his reputation, reflected ultimately in the exceedingly high quality of his best work. This cello is one such instrument.
