J B Vuillaume 1798 – 1875
This outstanding violin dated 1852, is perhaps one of the best preserved example of this charismatic Parisian maker’s work I have seen. The accompanying certificate by Bernard Millant, stated that this instrument once formed part of his father’s collection and is one of the Alard Stradivari copies.
In 1972, Roger Millant is quoted as saying of Vuillaume – “What set him apart from the rest is that he was not only an artist without equal, but also a tireless seeker of perfection to whom there was no such thing as failure. It was this driving force which shone through his life and made his work immortal.”
